Warnings over changes to GMC’s core guidance for doctors

The two leading medical defence organisations have warned about changes to the General Medical Council’s (GMC) core guidance for doctors. Medical Protection said the GMC’s proposal to replace the existing statement in Good Medical Practice which sets out the threshold for regulatory action, risks significantly increasing the number of cases which fall well short of the threshold, creating further distrust of the regulator. The Medical Defence Union (MDU) said changes to the GMC’s core guidance for doctors could lead to more regulatory investigations.
