Reducing the risks of transfers by helicopter

Gregor Stevens, of the International Chamber of Shipping, reports on the very particular risks of helicopter transfers

We all live with risk in our personal and professional lives, and will regularly weigh up how much risk we are willing to take to receive a potential reward. Yet for the seafarer on board ship, risk has a very different meaning. A seafarer will face a level of personal risk every day, in most areas of their working environment. The industry works hard to mitigate those risks with comprehensive safety legislation, but still the unexpected can happen.
