Collective Redress Directive and the rise of class actions

At the end of last year, the EU published the Directive (EU) 2020/1828 on representative actions for the protection of the collective interests of consumers, commonly known as the “Collective Redress Directive”. It provides for qualified entities, such as consumer organisations and independent public bodies, designated by the EU member states, to be able to bring representative actions for redress.
