Vantage – FATF executive secretary viewpoint

Under the current Chinese presidency, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has had strong support for its desire to boost the implementation of the AML/CFT policies and laws included in its Recommendations. MLB interviewed FATF Executive Secretary David Lewis to explore how his organisation has been pushing improvements to supervision of AML/CFT to ensure its expert advice delivers on stemming proceeds of crime and terrorist finance flows. It spoke to him after the October plenary, when – among other decisions – FATF members decided to increase pressure on Iran to comply with global AML/CFT standards, and threatened Pakistan with punitive action, if it continued dragging its feet over complying with this global guidance.
