Admiralty - Bills of lading - Jurisdiction of the District Court of Hong Kong

A cargo of frozen salmon fillet strips was transported from Poland to Thailand via Singapore and allegedly arrived in damaged condition, the container having been found defective and replaced in Singapore. The plaintiff cargo interests had commenced an action under the bill of lading in the Court of First Instance in respect of the cargo damage against the defendant carrier. The defendant requested that the action be transferred to the District Court. The plaintiffs objected on jurisdictional grounds.
