The International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund 1971 (the IOPC Fund 1971) was established on 16 October 1978 when the International Convention on the Establishment of an International Fund for Compensation for Oil Pollution Damage 1971 (the 1971 Fund Convention) entered into force. The IOPC Fund 1971 was given legal personality in the contracting states.
