Motor vehicle insurance: replacement vehicles

There has been much litigation on the recoverability of replacement car hire charges for a vehicle damaged in an accident which is the fault of the defendant The cases demonstrate that the claimant can recover only reasonable charges. Singh v Yaqubi [2013] EWCA Civ 23 is a useful reminder that, before the question of reasonableness can arise, the claimant has to show that there was an actual need to hire a replacement vehicle in the first place.
