Mixed signs from both the primary and reinsurance markets in the US over the course of the first six months as bottom line profitability worsened even though underwriting performance showed signs of improvement. On the face of it, the reinsurance sector is handling the core business of underwriting more successfully than the primary market, recording a much lower collective combined ratio.
