12.1.1 The constitutional structure of Japan

The Constitution (3 May 1947) adopted the parliamentary cabinet system. The Constitution also established the Supreme Court as the ultimate judicial authority to interpret and apply the national and local laws as well as the Constitution (Article 76(1)).
