1. Different laws can govern different aspects of an arbitration

While those unfamiliar with international commercial arbitration often think of it as providing an alternative to the strictly law-focused approach of court litigation, arbitration is intimately entwined with the law. Indeed, a single arbitration may have several applicable laws, each governing one or more aspects of the arbitral process or the parties’ dispute.
