A. Introduction

Purpose of this chapter

22.001 The purpose of this chapter is to examine the European Union (“EU”) law relating to shipbuilding.1 In some ways, it is a narrow topic with only four legislative instruments but, in other ways, it is an extremely important topic because of the strategic significance of shipbuilding and the associated technologies for the EU.
