Commission publishes communication on practical aspects of the euro

The EU Commission has published a communication to the EU Parliament, the EU Council, the EU Economic and Social Committee, the EU Committee of the Regions and the European Central Bank on practical aspects of the euro. The communication provides an overview of preparations for the final changeover to the euro at the beginning of 2002. At this point, the euro will no longer be divided into national currency units and national banknotes and coins will be replaced by euro-denominated notes and coins. The report looks at preparations in the euro-zone jurisdictions and sets out additional measures that need to be taken.
