The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision has issued a revised set of guidance on the adoption of effective corporate governance
practices within banks and banking groups (Basel Committee “Enhancing Corporate Governance for Banking Organisations” (February
2006)). The purpose of the guidance is to attempt to ensure the adoption and implementation of sound corporate governance
practices within banks and banking groups across the world. However, this will not replace but support existing regulatory
laws, rules and codes.
