In perfect harmony?

The European Commission wanted a more cohesive system for regulating brokers across Europe when it introduced the Insurance Mediation Directive, but the results – which range from gold-plating to no measures at all – have got everyone thinking again.

The Insurance Mediation Directive (IMD) has never been one of the most popular measures introduced by the European Commission. Since its arrival in 2005 the directive has been nothing but controversial. Implemented too strongly in some member states, and ignored by some others for an exceptionally long period of time in excess of the due date, it is about time that the furore died down.
