Government collects evidence for level playing field in travel industry regulation

The government review of travel insurance regulation is seriously considering bringing travel agents into the Financial Services Authority’s regime. Speaking as a witness in the Treasury Committee’s inquiry into the scope of FSA insurance regulation, economic secretary to the Treasury Ed Balls said the argument for a level-playing field is strong. He added that the government is aware of over-burdening the FSA by adding travel agents to its regime but said it could be preferable to setting up a new regulator specifically for the travel industry.
