Australian industry bodies call for tighter regulation of foreign insurers
Australia’s key insurance trade bodies are calling for the national government to make good on promises to tighten oversight
of foreign insurers, according to a report in the
Sydney Morning Herald
. The report cites the concerns of Alan Mason, executive director of the Insurance Council of Australia, backed by the National
Insurance Brokers Association, over unauthorised foreign insurers which pay different rates of tax and hold different levels
of capital.
