Australian industry bodies call for tighter regulation of foreign insurers

Australia’s key insurance trade bodies are calling for the national government to make good on promises to tighten oversight of foreign insurers, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald . The report cites the concerns of Alan Mason, executive director of the Insurance Council of Australia, backed by the National Insurance Brokers Association, over unauthorised foreign insurers which pay different rates of tax and hold different levels of capital.
