Foreign regulation of LSE a possibility

Regulation of the London Stock Exchange could conceivably leave UK shores if a multinational takeover or merger were to occur in the future, said chairman of the Financial Services Authority Callum McCarthy recently. He stressed that while this was not likely in the short term, a merger or takeover, such as those proposed by Deutsche Börse and more recently Nasdaq, “could at the extreme involve the LSE no longer being subject to UK regulation”.
