Canada: Panamanian-registered cargo boat Leader L. sank off The southeast coast of Nova Scotia. It was insured for both hull and P&l cover for $6mn with J L Jones Syndicate 329. Speculation is that the damage was caused by serious structural failure. The 69,120dwt vessel had a cargo of salt. The vessel sank in 30 seconds after the bow rose 45 degrees into the air. This caused the deaths of 18 crew members; 13 were saved by Canadian rescue aircraft. 18 dead.
