Regulator blocks take over of Fortis France

There is speculation that Fortis Assurances (France), the French life subsidiary of the Belgian-Dutch Fortis group, may need to be recapitalised after the French economy and finance ministry, following advice from the country’s insurance supervisor, declined permission for Swiss Life (France) to take over Fortis Assurances. The ministry cited the interest of the policy holders.
