Cat reinsurers strike it rich

First quarter results being released by US and Bermudian reinsurance companies illustrate the full impact of 11 September on 1 January renewals. They show that reinsurers which concentrate on property catastrophe have benefited much more than those with broader books of business. If there are no major losses this year, the Bermuda-based catastrophe reinsurers are sure to generate huge profits.
