CGNU to close in Taiwan
Asia-Pacific
UK insurer Commercial Union Assurance has informed the Taiwanese finance ministry of its intentions to close down its life
insurance firm in Taiwan because of sustained operating losses. This follows the withdrawal of two other foreign firms in
the Taiwanese market, including a subsidiary of US-based
Hartford Fire Insurance. In addition to the 23 domestic insurers, there are now only six foreign companies operating in Taiwan.
