US war risk cover in Gulf

The US president has given permission for the Department of Transportation (DOT) to provide war risk cover to commercial vessels operating in the Middle East. The Maritime administration is accepting applications for the cover from US flag vessels and ships owned by US companies. The insurance covers the ship, cargo and crew and is underwritten by the DOT in return for a premium from shipowners.
