Marine insurers downbeat for 2000
German marine insurance has now become the largest industrial line outside liability (where the statistics do not differentiate
between private customer business and industrial/commercial business). Marine insurance premium income of DM3.15bn (US$1.4bn)
last year exceeded that of fire and engineering lines. However, there is little joy for insurers from this business. The 1999
figure reflected a 1.5% fall in business. And for 2000 insurers expect premiums of DM3.10bn; a fall of 1%.
