Ethiopia mulls foreign participation

The governor of Ethiopia’s central bank has given a strong hint that foreign insurers may be allowed to participate in the country’s domestic market. Speaking to the Ethiopian Economic Association, Teklewold Atnafu said that liberalisation of the insurance industry a few years ago had gone well and given a large boost to the financial services sector. He said that the goal of a diversified financial system could only be achieved through further liberalisation.
