India auto manufacturers to enter insurance

India’s biggest motorcycle and scooter manufacturer, Bajaj Auto has plans to sell non-life insurance products when the market is opened to private insurers later this year. Bajaj follows the example of Maruti Udyog, the auto manufacturing joint venture between the Indian government and Japan’s Suzuki which announced its intention to sell insurance and other financial service products. Maruti is the biggest car maker in India.
