Sri Lanka liberalises

The Sri Lankan parliament has voted for a change in the country’s Insurance Control Act to allow the creation of an insurance regulator independent from the finance ministry. According to the deputy Finance Minister, Gamini Peiris, the new regulatory board will pay particular attention to monitoring the financial strength of insurance companies and brokers. The recent amendments will also allow for a policyholder protection fund.
