Kidnappings reach record high

Worldwide kidnappings for ransom reached record levels last year, a new survey by the UK-based Hiscox insurance group reveals. Total reported kidnappings for ransom rose 6% in 1999 to reach 1,789 – and 92% of those incidents took place in the 10 riskiest countries.
