Aviation losses drop in 1999

Leading aviation loss adjuster Airclaims has made known figures for commercial aviation losses in 1999. Insurance payments were down from US$1.9bn in 1998 to US$1.8bn; the number of passenger deaths also declined to 512, less than half the 1,046 of 1998 – in fact, down to the lowest recorded since 1946. Losses were split at US$1.14bn physical damage and US$463mn passenger liability.
