Widely headlined in the media as an ‘award’, the payment of £203,432 to site warden Randal Ingram for the effects of workplace
stress was in fact another ‘settlement’. Yet despite the lower ‘case law’ standing of settlements, these can be influential
– as the landmark settlement of £175,000 in
Walker v Northumberland County Council
in 1994.
