Rise in recorded racism
Racism is not confined solely to the workplace, though compensation for such is becoming more common [see items in Awards
& Settlement]. Racist incidents recorded last year by the police, rose by 75%, apparently reflecting changed police attitudes
following the Macpherson inquiry into the death of Stephen Lawrence. According to the annual report of the Chief Inspector
of Constabulary, racist incidents totalled more than 20,000.
