Tobacco update
French court finds tobacco group liable
for death of smoker, in first case of its kind. A civil court in the city of Montargis held that the former state tobacco
monopoly, Seita, was 60% liable for the victim’s smoking up to 1969 (when he came of age) and 40% liable for the subsequent
years until 1976, when health warnings were introduced.
