Unfair dismissal over stress

A woman has been awarded damages of £14,800 for unfair dismissal. The woman, who worked for a train company, went on sick leave and was dismissed on health grounds. She suffered from work-related stress after she picked up a syringe on a train, causing her panic attacks and depression, and leading to her taking an HIV test. She claimed under the Disability Discrimination Act. As well as the award for loss of earnings and injury to feelings, the tribunal also said she should be reinstated.
