Sheffield council personal injury claims costs
South Yorkshire newspaper The Star has revealed that personal injury claims cost Sheffield council £583,333 in 2004/5. According
to the paper, during 2004/5 the council paid £219,757 to members of the public and paid an additional £275,956 to claimants’
solicitors. It cost the council another £87,619 in legal fees and costs to deal with 799 claims. In 2000/1 the council paid
out a total of £205,131 in compensation including £92,047 to claimants and £21,587 to solicitors. The majority of claims were
reported to involve “trippers and slippers” on pavements and roads.
