£62,300 for pavement trip
A 73-year-old man who tripped on a broken pavement has been awarded £62,300. The man damaged his spinal cord and spent five
months in hospital learning to walk again. The council admitted responsibility for the state of the footpath but argued that
the man had been drinking. The council had agreed to pay £30,000 if it was found to be at fault, but the court added a further
£32,300 for his pain and suffering.
