Compensation to sick miners passes £3bn

The amount of compensation paid to sick miners, their widows and families has passed £3bn, according to Energy Minister, Malcolm Wicks. The government is currently paying out around £2mn every working day in compensation for respiratory and vibration related injuries to miners and families of the deceased. In Wales, £432mn has been paid in compensation for respiratory disease and £140mn for vibration white finger.
