£1mn for lift fall injuries

A man who survived a 150 feet fall down a lift shaft has been awarded £1mn in compensation in a settlement. He was working as a lift engineer on a maintenance platform at Canary Wharf, when the supporting rope snapped. He plunged 150 feet and 11 floors onto the wooden deck below. A 110 lb lift motor, which had also been on the platform, fell on top of him.
