£220,000 settlement for widow

The widow of a man who fell 40 feet to his death when a hatch cover he was standing on gave way, has been awarded £220,000 in a settlement with her husband’s employer. The man was an experienced steel fixer working on a jump platform. The access point, which was no longer in use, had been covered with an old piece of plywood fixed in place by two nails. The employer admitted responsibility for the incident.
