Inference of bias can be rebutted

Although race or sex discrimination could be inferred by unreasonable treatment on the part of the alleged discriminator, such an inference could be rebutted by evidence of a genuine reason that was not discriminatory and which was the ground of the alleged discriminator’s conduct.
