Sacked for removing safety gear on hot day
Road workers who were sacked for taking off safety gear on a hot day are taking their case to an employment tribunal. The
three workers are claiming unfair dismissal after they were photographed by a health and safety officer and sacked for gross
misconduct. They point out that it was 27°C and as a result had taken off their hard hats and jackets. The company said it
was following its strict policy on workers wearing personal protective equipment.
