Fraud damages in dramatic increase

A survey carried out by Bloomberg News of the 25 largest jury verdicts of 2003 has revealed that juries awarded damages of $13.8bn against companies that were sued for fraud. The corresponding figure for 2002 was just $1.46 billion. Nine of the top 25 awards last year were fraud judgments, compared with eight in 2002 and one in 2001.
