Summary assessment of costs

To challenge a summary assessment of costs, permission to appeal was required. This was so even where the assessment had been made in the course of insolvency proceedings. The court ruled that in this case, even though the registrar had not followed the correct two-stage process, the figure which he arrived at was proportionate and therefore the appeal was dismissed.
