Safety in auto design
An article in the Chicago Tribune of 29 December 2002 lists the many changes to auto design responding to work by the (US)
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These range from safer
siting of child seat restraints to re-siting of spare tyres. Insurance companies have also exerted direct influence on safety
design through higher premiums applied to models with high accident rates.
