Railway enforcement notices

During the reporting year ending March 2002 the Health & Safety Executive issued 129 enforcement notices against railway companies, more than in any year since privatisation. Concern is expressed on weak safety culture in some organisations, poor management of contractors and the safety of track workers. However, while safety on the railways remained ‘patchy’, overall standards were improving.
