‘Trends in auto injury claims’
The US Insurance Research Council’s (IRC) report shows that while auto accidents have fallen by 16% since 1980, injury claims
have increased by 26%. Property damage has fallen slightly from 4.94 claims per 100 cars to 4.13. This is attributed largely
to the additional attractiveness of filing claims for (even trivial) injury now that pain and suffering awards can often far
exceed the basic loss award.
