HRT study abandoned

The Medical Research Council (MRC) has abandoned a large-scale clinical study of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), after reviewing evidence from a US study, also abandoned, because the risks from HRT were seen as outweighing the benefits. At the same time the MRC sought to reassure the almost 6,000 women taking part that no new safety concerns had been found.
