New rules of seat safety
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has put forward proposals for improved aircraft seat safety. New seats, to be installed
over the next 14 years at an estimated cost of US$519mn, would give improved head protection, better belts and be more firmly
secured to the floor. Estimated as likely to save 114 lives and 133 serious injuries in accidents over the next 20 years,
consultation runs until 3 December 2002.
