Jones Act can apply to non-seagoing vessels

Where a seaman was injured aboard a barge, incapable of navigating open seas but routinely towed to different ports, he would be eligible for benefits under the Jones Act. This the decision of the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals overturning a lower court decision. [Business Insurance 18 September 2002].
