The Food Standards Agency has confirmed that between 1980 and 1995 some 5,000 tonnes of beef slurry was used in cheap food (fed to school children and hospital patients and maybe baby food). The Spongiform Encephalopathy Advisory Committee will use this information in its assessment of the scale of future vCJD.
