Former Names to appeal High Court ruling
Some 220 former
Lloyd’s Names have been given leave to appeal last November’s High Court ruling. This cleared
Lloyd’s of alleged fraud in concealing the extent of asbestos loss risks. Hearings are due to start in January 2002. Around £50mn
and serious matters of principle are at issue. The action has already cost
Lloyd’s about £20mn.
