Liability Risk and Insurance
New motor insurance database
The new Motor Insurance Database, managed by Experian on behalf of the Motor Insurers’ Information Centre, provides police
with a roadside record of all insured private drivers. This as a tool to combat the ever-growing number of claims to the Motor
Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) from the victims of uninsured drivers. The industry levy to the MIB has risen from £100mn in 1995 to
£215mn last year, with this year’s total estimated at £265mn. The MIB handled 47,500 claims in 1999 from the victims of some
of the estimated million or more uninsured drivers.
